The Crocoseum; Australia Zoo

Australia Zoo has expanded considerably since Ian first visited 7 years ago. The Crocoseum and several surrounding buildings and habitats are all new.
Before the crocs came out there was a bird show – various species were encouraged to fly around the arena from one handler to another. The lorikeets seemed to like landing on people’s heads.
We mised the big cats show, but caught up with them taking some R&R later on.

A visit to Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo in Queensland. The koala enclosure was lovely. The outdoor koala walkthrough area was full of macadamia trees – the koalas don’t eat these leaves even though the trees are natives, but they are happy to perch in them and eat the eucalypt leaves attached. The reason for this is that the macadamia trees are nice and low and make it easy for visitors to see the koalas not too far off the ground.
